UMD Box accounts are hosted by Box and managed by the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology. All rights and responsibilities established in the UMD Policy on the Acceptable Use of IT Resources apply to the UMD Box service.
Box account holders have full responsibility for copying and or downloading any required data within 30 days following departure from UMD. Individual Box accounts are subject to the typical Directory account lifecycle; for more information about UMD account terminations, please refer to Overview of Account Terminations for Faculty and Staff and Overview of Account Terminations for Students.
A note for departments and researchers: The recommended practice for storing data related to a business process or project is to use a Box Group account. Box Group accounts provide access to multiple individuals, and prevent data loss if one individual’s account is terminated.
Please note that creating a UMD Box account will share limited personal information (name and UMD email address) with members of the UMD community.
Box is approved for data categorized up to High Risk; Faculty and staff users of this service should be aware of the limitations on the types of data that may be stored in a Box account. Please review the IT-2 Data Classification Standard, and contact IT Compliance with any questions.
